Come & help us celebrate our 22nd Birthday
We would like to welcome you to the Club’s 22nd Championship Show on 13th December at the John Wright Sports Centre in East Kilbride and hope that this information will help make your journey and participation at the show as enjoyable as possible.
Show Team Your show team are Ian and Caroline Thomson, and should you have a query prior to or need assistance on the day, please do not hesitate to approach us, or indeed any other member of the Committee. Should you encounter any problems in travelling to the show on the day, ring one of us on the day using the emergency numbers on the front of the Schedule 07799 208577 or 07761 173 915 to advise you may be late. John Wright Sports Centre There is a small lounge/eating area upstairs within the Centre, serviced by hot and cold drink vending machines also crisps/chocolate vending machines. Indoor catering facilities are available (under new management) from the restaurant / cafeteria at the Indoor Bowling Club next door and there are also several places to eat within a short 5 minute stroll of the centre, some of which do cheap breakfasts. The Town Centre is a 12 minute walk and has numerous eating places as you will see in the attached guide. For those exhibitors who want to take a dip, we have the Dollan Baths or the Ice Rink about 12 minutes walk. Parking There is free parking for 150 cars at the Sports Centre with a further 60+ spaces situated in an overspill car park. The overspill car park is signposted and we have been advised that only the fitness gym is in use that day, parking should not be a problem in the morning, but please be aware that if you go out by car at 10am, you may have to use the overspill car park upon return to the hall. Shopping and Eating The main shopping complex is a 12 minutes walk. There are also shops and DIY stores at Kingsgate Retail Park. See guide for Town centre shops. Places to Stay (allowing pets) Express by Holiday Inn. Country Park Hamilton Road ML1 3RB. Just off Junction 5 of the M74 at the Raith Interchange. Tel 01698 858585 (Approximately £55 to £65U per roomU with complimentary breakfast, it is cheaper to book on-line). 6 miles of dual carriageway from the Hotel to the Sports Centre, see back cover of schedule for directions. There is also the Holiday Inn at Stewartfield Way G74 5LA. Advance Purchase Breakfast Rooms are approx £45 to £55 or Breakfast Flex Rooms around £70. Approx 3.5 miles from the Hotel to the Sports Centre. You can book online or by phone Tel 01355 236300. We phoned the Holiday Inn and were advised “pets allowed on request”. We explained that most cats were indoor show cats and was advised that when making a booking at Stewartfield Way, you must ensure that you advise them at outset that a pet will be included. We were told “No additional charges for pets”. Please check directly with Hotels as we have no control over any of this information. We provide this information as an unofficial guide. Exhibition Pens We are sure that both exhibitors and members of the public alike would welcome the opportunity to see some of those cats who no longer compete, on exhibition. Please consider bringing your cats for us all to see and admire, each exhibition pen will receive a special rosette with the name of their cat or prefix on it, and we are having a Best Decorated Exhibition Pen Competition, with a rosette and a small cash prize for the winner. Best in the West As you will see from the heading we are once again having a “Best in the West” Best of Variety with an overall Best Pedigree and Best Household Pet. Please note that the “Best in the West” pedigree cats will be selected from our Best of Breed winners and “IF you ain’t in it, YOU can’t win it” President’s Classes For our 21st birthday we have retained 2 miscellaneous classes in the schedule, one in the Persian and one in the Household Pet section. They will be judged by one of our founder members Mrs G Robertson. Please consider entering your cat in one of these classes as there will be a special trophy for the winner of each class and a special rosette for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places entered for the President’s class. Raffle Once again our raffle this year has the usual prizes including a £50.00 note, Whiskas basket, Cuddly Toy and various other prizes. Of course, no raffle would be complete without the usual bottles of alcohol! Tombola If you have any unwanted gifts we would be very pleased to have them, they can be passed onto any Committee member or handed in on show day. All your donations will be gratefully received.
Charity Classes The committee decided that we will donate the proceeds from the Pedigree and HP charity classes to a well deserving charity or organisation that has the welfare of cats at heart; the recipient will be different each year. We ask that you bring along a donation of cat food to the show; this will be donated to the charities on show day, remember not all cats and kittens have such a good start in life as your own. Trophies We would like to take this opportunity to remind all exhibitors who were fortunate to receive a trophy, to clean and return them before or on show day. Anyone who would like to donate a trophy please contact Morag Lang (Trophy Secretary) on 01698 324359 Lucky Pen Numbers Lucky pen numbers will be drawn during the day. Peoples Choice Forms will be placed in the pens and handed to the public as they come through the doors. We will provide a box down at show table to place your results in. Let the People select their choice of cat. Help On Show Day This is where the show team and committee need help the most. We are extremely grateful for all offers of help, whether it is to steward, work on administration table, vetting in stewarding, and door entry in the morning for exhibitors or afternoon for the public, catalogue sales at 10am, results slips, rosettes. UWithoutU Uoffers of help we cannot function.U Please, please let us know what help you can give us on show day, even help for part of a day. Complete the “Help Form” in the schedule.
